1015 - General purpose low carbon steel plate with predictable qualities. Has excellent welding and bending properties. Structural applications.AISI 1015 is a low-carbon steel that offers superior workability and machinability. A versatile engineering and machinery alloy, AISI 1015 is used normalized, hot-rolled, cold-worked or annealed.
AISI 1015 is a standard grade carbon steel. It is composed of (in weight percentage) 0.13-0.18% Carbon (C), 0.30-0.60% Manganese (Mn), 0.04%(max) Phosphorus (P), 0.05%(max) Sulfur (S), and the base metal Iron (Fe). Other designations of AISI 1015 carbon steel include UNS G10150 and AISI 1015.
Heat Treatment of AISI 1015
Normalize at 1675° to 1725°F (913° to 941°C) before air cooling
Full annealing at 1600° to 1725°F (871° to 941°C) before furnace cooling
Process anneal after cold working at 1100° to 1225°F (593° to 663°C)
Harden
Carburized Not Carburized Can be case hardened
Applications of AISI 1015
- Machinery parts
- Construction components
- Trusses
- Building sections
- Tool and die applications
- Cold-extruded and case-hardened parts
Machinability of AISI 1015
- Readily machined
- Good surface finish may be compromised from tearing in annealing state
Workability of AISI 1015
- Hot roll or forge from 1800° to 2300°F (982° to 1260°C)
- Intermediate annealing required for substantial cold work
- Fully anneal when further cold work will follow extensive cold work
